Located in North Smithfield, this 18,600 sq. ft. addition provides 80 units of affordable senior housing which include (55) HUD 202 units. The forms of the large structure are intended to be reminiscent of barn forms that may have been part of this former horse farm. The $11.6 million dollar project utilized panelized construction methods, which significantly reduced construction waste. Conscious efforts were made to incorporate renewable materials throughout the project as well. Items such as energy efficient lighting, motion detection in the common areas and low maintenance landscaping were also implemented. The facility is heated and cooled with geothermal wells. All units are energy star rated. The Meadows was honored as the winner of the 2009 Excellence Award for Senior Housing from the National Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition. The project was the runner up for ‘Best Senior Housing’ by Affordable Housing Finance Magazine.
